Libra is a Cardinal air sign that strives for balance between harmony and relationships. They are known for their good taste, elegance and charm. They are in a constant chase for justice and equality, but also like to avoid conflict and keep the peace whenever possible. They have a strong intellect and a keen mind, so they need constant mental stimuli. Their lives need to be enriched by music, art and beautiful places. Ruled by Neptune, the planet of decision making, relationships and material things, Libras have a natural mode of living in partnerships. concerned with issues of social justice. If they are not balanced within their energies, they can be indecisive and insecure within their relationships as they don’t like to be alone.
Constellation and Mythology
The constellation is located in the southern hemisphere, it is fairly faint with no first magnitude stars and lies between Virgo to the West and Scorpio to the east. The name is Latin for weighing scales, for its diplomatic tendencies and is the only sign that is not depicted by an animal or person. It is related to the Greek goddess of justice, Themis whose daughter Astraea (Virgo) went up to heaven. Both of these goddesses carried the scales of justice which became the symbol for Libra.
